A viral video currently making rounds online has sparked outrage after a man identified as Nigerian police officer Newton Isokpehi threatened people recording police officers while on duty.
In the video, the visibly angry officer warned that anyone filming him could get shot, adding that “stray bullets” could also hit innocent people nearby.
According to him:
“Any day wey I dey on duty as a Nigerian police officer, anybody wey video me, I go clear everybody down!
“Make dem tell that oga wey talk say make people video police, na him go bury the people wey I go shoot!
“Anybody wey video me, na stray bullet go kill innocent people around!”
The video has generated heavy reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for the officer to be identified, investigated, and possibly suspended.
Others believe the incident reflects deeper problems within the Nigerian Police Force, including stress, poor welfare, and lack of proper mental health support for officers.
The incident has also reignited conversations around citizens’ rights to record public officials while carrying out their duties.
